Phivolcs described an ashing event as “gray ash being entrained or brought out by continuous degassing from the Kanlaon Volcano.”
Based on the 24-hour observation, the volcano emitted plumes rising about 300 meters tall that drifted west and west-southwest.
Sulfur dioxide emissions also increased to 8,040 tons on Thursday from 6,730 tons on Wednesday.
The volcano remained at Alert Level 2 (increased unrest), which means entry to the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone and flying any aircraft near the volcano’s crater are prohibited.
Phivolcs also warned that phreatic eruptions and precursory magmatic activity might occur.
