MANILA, Philippines 鈥 The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) logged 6,940 individuals who violated local ordinances in a bid to toughen its enforcement by the force鈥檚 newly installed chief, Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin.
Last Friday, Aberin was designated the new acting NCRPO director, transferring from Police Regional Office 7 (Central Visayas) and following the relief of Maj. Gen. Sidney Hernia.

In a statement on Tuesday, a day after Aberin officially assumed office, NCRPO said it fined 2,208 individuals, generating a total of P1,571,645 in penalties.
Infractions included defying the smoking ban, drinking in public spaces, roaming half-naked in public, and violating curfew hours for minors.

Meanwhile, the capital鈥檚 police force issued warnings to 4,732 local ordinance violators.
Aberin said, 鈥淲e appeal to community members in Metro Manila to follow all national and local laws pursuant to our collective goal of ensuring a peaceful and orderly environment.鈥
鈥淧eace and security is always a joint undertaking between the police and the community,鈥 the new NCRPO chief added.
鈥楤ack to basics鈥
Aberin officially assumed office in a ceremony at the NCRPO Headquarters in Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City on Monday, November 25.
In addressing the officers now under his command, Aberin pushed for his 鈥淎ble, Active, Allied鈥 campaign with law enforcement and stressed adherence to police operational procedures.
Aberin said, 鈥淚 believe that to properly carry out our tasks, we need to get back to basics and concentrate on crime prevention and solutions. Let us always be reminded of our fundamental duty as law enforcers: to prevent crime and solve crimes.鈥
Aberin鈥檚 ascension to the capital鈥檚 police force came after the administrative relief of Maj. Gen. Sidney Hernia, who was accused of extorting foreign nationals apprehended during the raid of an alleged scam hub in Manila.
The raid also led to the administrative relief and eventual reassignment of Anti-Cybercrime Group Director Maj. Gen. Ronnie Cariaga.
Prior to his appointment as Metro Manila鈥檚 new top cop, Aberin was PRO 7 Director, Tawi-Tawi Police Provincial Office Commander and Philippine National Police (PNP) Aviation Security Group Director, NCRPO said in a statement on Tuesday..
Aberin was also a graduate of the PNP Academy 鈥淭agapaglunsad鈥 Class of 1993 and once assigned to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, according to the NCRPO.
