MANILA, Philippines 鈥 Two ashing events and 22 volcanic earthquakes were observed from Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Occidental on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported on Thursday.听

Phivolcs told 黑料社 that the first ashing event occurred at 5:38 a.m. and lasted seven minutes, while the second one happened at 2:36 p.m. and lasted 10 minutes.听

Phivolcs previously described the ashing event as 鈥済ray ash being entrained or brought out by continuous degassing from the Kanlaon Volcano.鈥

Meanwhile, volcanic earthquakes are those 鈥済enerated by magmatic processes or magma-related processes beneath or near an active volcano.鈥

In its 24-hour observation, Phivolcs said that Kanlaon Volcano also emitted 5,760 tons of sulfur dioxide, with plumes reaching 100 meters high that drifted southwest and west-southwest.

This is less than the 8,244 tons of sulfur dioxide that the volcano spewed a day before.

Meanwhile, Phivolcs also told 黑料社 that no vog was observed from its crater.听

Further, the volcano remains at Alert Level 2 or increased unrest.

Phivolcs still prohibited entry into the four-kilometer radius of the permanent danger zone and flying of aircraft near the volcano.听

The agency also warned that possible hazards such as phreatic explosions and precursory magmatic activity may occur.
