MANILA, Philippines — A barangay captain and her husband were killed in Dueñas town in Iloilo province on Thursday, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) reported.
Michelle Lamela, captain of Barangay Santo Niño, and her husband, Rodney Lamela, were shot while riding their motorcycle in Barangay Tinocuan in Dueñas, Iloilo, at around 9:30 a.m. on December 5, according to the CIDG Western Visayas Regional Field Unit.

The two unnamed suspects, also on a motorcycle, fled toward Dingle town after the incident.
Officers described one of the assailants as having a “big build,” wearing a black sweatshirt and a helmet, while the other had a “medium build.”
Lamela and her husband were rushed to the Passi City Hospital but were declared dead on arrival.

The suspects remain at large, with authorities launching a hot pursuit operation.
