Over 3,900 online registrations for digital poll campaign received, so far

Online campaign registration deadline

MANILA, Philippines — With only eight days left before  the deadline of for the 2025 digital election campaign, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has so far received over 3,900 online registrations. 

Data released by Comelec Chairman George on Thursday showed  that  3,904 online registrations have been received as of 5:12 p.m. on Wednesday.

Of this figure, 24 were from senatorial aspirants, 3,775 from local position candidates, and 105 from party-list groups, organizations and coalitions.

The Comelec said that 2,096 aspirants submitted their hard copies of documents for registration.

This excludes the 53 private individuals who registered their accounts prior to the promulgation of Comelec Resolution No. 11064-A or the removal of the provision on regulating the social media accounts of private individuals.

Over 43,000 aspirants for the local and national posts, and the party-list groups filed their certificates of candidacy and certificates of nomination and acceptance for the 2025 midterm elections.

Digital campaign guidelines

Further, Garcia reminded aspirants to adhere to the new guidelines set by the poll body for digital campaigning for the 2025 elections.

“Any posts of candidates or political parties on social media accounts not registered with the Commission will be taken down by the platforms upon our request,” Garcia told . 

“Likewise, they can be held liable for an election offense and face possible disqualification cases,” Garcia added.

Social media account registration

Social media account registration is part of the regulation of digital election campaigning. It aims to regulate the use of artificial intelligence and prohibit the proliferation of disinformation and misinformation.

Garcia previously said that the registration deadline for the social media accounts will remain until December 13. 

The poll body also previously noted that for next year’s polls will be released “to ensure that the LGBTQIA+ community and other sectors will receive equal treatment from the society” emphasizing that the right to vote and hold public office know no gender.
