PCG: 3 vessels in Navotas seized due to illegal fishing
MANILA, Philippines — Authorities seized three commercial vessels reportedly used in illegal fishing activities in Navotas City last week, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported on Sunday.
The PCG said its personnel, along with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), apprehended the vessels on December 5 for violating sections of Republic Act 10654 or the Fisheries Code of the Philippines.
The first vessel violated sections 86(a) and 95 for commercial fishing and using active gear within municipal waters. The PCG said the maximum fine for this violation is P250,000.
The second vessel “violated sections 86(a), 95, and 89(a) for commercial fishing, using active gears, and lacking the required licenses. Maximum fine is P450,000,” the PCG reported.
Meanwhile, the third vessel “violated sections 86(a), 95, and 155 for commercial fishing, using active gears, and evading authorities in a dangerous hot pursuit. Maximum fine is P1.1 million,” it added.
