MANILA, Philippines —  President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed government agencies to bring the Christmas spirit to communities nationwide following the recent climate challenges that claimed the lives of some Filipinos.

In his speech during a gift-giving activity at the Malacañang grounds on Sunday, Marcos hoped that everyone would have a merry Christmas despite the effects of El Niño, La Niña, and the recent typhoons.

“We faced hardships last year. We were hit by a lot of things. It started with El Niño. It affected the agriculture sector, and now La Niña when we were hit by typhoons,” Marcos said in Filipino.

“I hope we just have a merry Christmas. We are given a little time, a little chance to be with our loved ones, celebrate a little, have a little fun, and eat too much lechon, and then face the challenges. That is Christmas for Filipinos,” Marcos added.

Aside from this, Marcos and his family led the gift-giving to children through this year’s “Balik Sigla, Bigay Saya Year 3: A Nationwide Gift-Giving Day.”

The event brought gifts, among others, to more than 30,000 children nationwide.
