Flights, classes canceled in Western Visayas after Kanlaon blast
ILOILO CITY — Flights were canceled and classes suspended in parts of Western Visayas on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 9 and 10, after Mt. Kanlaon on Negros island erupted on Monday afternoon.
Cebu Pacific canceled its flights from Iloilo to Manila, Singapore, and Cebu on Monday evening, and a flight to Dumaguete on Tuesday morning.
Class suspensions were also announced in the towns of Tigbauan, Oton, and San Joaquin in Iloilo and Patnongon in Antique as a precautionary measure.
Ashfall had been sighted in Guimaras and some southern Iloilo towns.
Local governments have released a public advisory on the matter.
Article continues after this advertisementData from the Department of Education-Western Visayas as of 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday indicated that 424 schools have shifted to alternative delivery modes, including 273 in Negros Occidental, 98 in Iloilo province, and 53 in Guimaras.
The University of the Philippines Visayas also announced the suspension of in-person classes and a shift to alternative modes on Monday. It allowed a return to physical sessions on Tuesday morning in light of improved conditions.
