Classes suspended, sea travel stopped in Quezon due to bad weather

LUCENA CITY — The local governments of Lucban, Pagbilao, Infanta, Tagkawayan, and Mauban in Quezon province suspended classes on Tuesday as these areas continued to experience heavy rains.
The announcements, made via the municipalities’ official Facebook pages, confirmed the suspension of classes from kindergarten to senior high school due to adverse weather conditions.
In a 5 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported heavy to intense rainfall affecting Quezon and Camarines Norte.
The downpour was attributed to the combined effects of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and the Shear Line.
Pagasa has urged local disaster risk management offices to remain vigilant and closely monitor weather developments.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) station in Real, Quezon, also announced the continued suspension of sea travel in the northern part of the province due to rough sea conditions.
Article continues after this advertisementIn its advisory, the PCG cited Pagasa’s forecast of strong gale-force winds brought by the northeast monsoon, affecting the waters surrounding the Polillo group of islands.
As a precaution, all vessels and small crafts weighing 250 gross tons and below are prohibited from sailing in northern Quezon.
The affected areas include Polillo Island, home to Polillo, Burdeos, and Panukulan, and Jomalig and Patnanungan municipalities in the Polillo Island group.
The PCG clarified that the suspension will remain in place until weather and sea conditions improve, as Pagasa determines.
Residents and travelers are advised to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts and advisories from Pagasa and the PCG.
Authorities also reminded the public to prioritize safety and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions. INQ
