MANILA, Philippines — Three weather systems will bring overcast skies and rain to most parts of the country on Wednesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja, in an early morning update, reported that the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” the shear line, and the easterlies would influence weather conditions nationwide.

According to Estareja, the northeast monsoon will continue to bring cold temperatures to Northern Luzon on Wednesday.

Cloudy skies and rain showers are expected in Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Ifugao, he said.

Cloudy with rain showers in Luzon

Meanwhile, parts of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Metro Manila will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms caused by the shear line, according to Estareja.

“Asahan pa rin ang mga minsang malalakas po ng mga pag-ulan dahil sa shear line, o ‘yung banggaan nga ng mainit at malamig na hangin. Kabilang na dyan ang Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, hanggang dito sa Metro Manila, malaking bahagi ng Calabarzon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, at lalawigan ng Catanduanes,” he enumerated.

(Occasional heavy rains are still expected due to the shear line, or the convergence of warm and cold air. Affected areas include Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Metro Manila, a significant portion of Calabarzon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and the province of Catanduanes.)

“Ang natitirang bahagi ng Visayas plus lalawigan ng Palawan, bahagyang maulap hanggang maulap ang kalangitan sa umaga, pero aasahan din po ang mga pag-ulan,” Estareja added.

(The remaining areas of the Visayas, plus the province of Palawan, will experience partly to mostly cloudy skies in the morning, but occasional rains are still expected.)

Kanlaon weather

Estareja further stated that the southern parts of the Visayas, including Southern Leyte, Bohol, and Southern Cebu, and the southern area of the Negros Island Region and those affected by the recent eruption of Kanlaon Volcano, will experience rains on Wednesday due to the easterlies.
