1-Pacman party-list leaders cited for extraordinary impact on lives of Filipinos
MANILA, Philippines – Young sports, civic and business leader Milka L. Romero, 1 Pacman Party List chairman and first nominee, recently received the Nation Builders and MOSLIV honorary award together with a select set of distinguished awardees including her father, Rep. Mikee Romero.
The younger Romero, CEO of Miro Group at 30 years old and who played women’s football at the Ateneo de Manila and the Philippine team, notably figured in 1-Pacman Party List’s socio-civic engagements to help build schools, grant scholarships and livelihood training for over 100,000 beneficiaries.
She now earnestly shapes 1-Pacman Party-list’s strong and continued advocacy for sports development in the country, with mentorship of the youth in the countryside in clear focus.
Under the leadership of her father, Dr. Michael “Mikee” Romero, who was congressman for 1-Pacman Party List for three consecutive terms, the young Romero also helped shape the “Share A Heart program” which provided care for some 1,000 indigent patients with severe heart ailments from diagnosis, operation to post-operative care.
Romero was also her mother Sheila B. Romero’s steadfast ally in carrying out philanthropic endeavors under the I Want To Share Foundation, which provides assistance to cancer patients, among others.

Romero noted that there is also some form of heroism in answering the call for sports development and excellence.
“We, at 1-Pacman Party List, enjoin families and our youth to set the stage for heroism in our midst. The culture of heroism that we engender for our country enables our youth to know they can achieve, they can improve, they can be persistent at enhancing their qualities needed by our country,” she stated.
“At the root of these aims is wellness, in aspects of body, mind, and spirit. We, at 1-Pacman, recognize and act on the urgency for action towards wellness for our youth, and sports development,” she added.
The young Romero also noted that the youth can aim for the stars in sports by doing the day-to-day preparations, all the minute details including receiving sufficient coaching and training, being diligent in getting enough sleep, right nourishment, and the all-important mental preparations.
“In sports, we set the stage for the engagements where our collective values would shine,” she said.
Her father was himself bestowed a Nation Builder award this year, his third since 2022.
A former deputy speaker of the House in the 18th Congress, Rep. Mikee Romero was chairman of the House committee on poverty alleviation.
He was named Honorary Congressman of the Year.
Congressman Romero penned and sponsored 144 laws, and filed over 1,000 bills.
Among these is the trailblazing Republic Act (RA) 11214, which mandated the building of the country’s first Philippine Sports Training Center, an essential part for the attainment of sporting excellence in the Philippines.
Noteworthy among poverty alleviation laws passed with the support of Representative Romero is RA 11310 or the 4Ps’ (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program).
He was recognized by the Nation Builders group for his service of being in the “frontline of championing the well being of marginalized in the legislative, well aware of how poverty alleviation is an indispensable requirement of sustainable development”.
The Nation Builders Honorary Awards is organized by the Sustainability Standards Inc. in collaboration with its Awards Committee Council and champions the principles of environmental stewardship and social responsibility for transformative leadership in the Philippines.
