MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Monday the current state of the country was “stable” even amid what he called “political noise.”

Marcos made the pronouncement when asked about his current assessment of the nation’s state as the end of 2024 nears.

“Oh, we’re quite stable. I mean, the government is functioning properly. Although there’s a lot of noise, that’s all it is. It’s all just noise,” said Marcos in a chance interview with reporters in Malacañang.

Marcos did not specify what he was referring to as “noise,” but it was only in the past month when the rift between him and Vice President Sara Duterte took a turn for the worse—especially after the latter bared a kill plot against him, his wife Liza and cousin Speaker Martin Romualdez should Duterte herself die.

Duterte made the remark amid what she claims as political attacks against her by the administration and its allies.

On November 29, Marcos also warned government troops in the Southern Luzon Command not to be fooled by “political noise.”

While he also did not specify what he was referring to, the pronouncement came after former president Rodrigo Duterte accused Marcos of running a “fractured governance,” and even called on the military to “correct it.”
