MANILA, Philippines — Keep modernization a top priority as part of efforts to protect the nation, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged the Philippine Air Force (PAF) on Thursday.
The president issued the reminder as he spoke at the change of command and retirement ceremony for outgoing PAF commanding officer Lt. Gen. Stephen Parreño.
He added that the service of the PAF was a source of immense pride for the country.
During the ceremony, Lt. Gen. Arthur Cordura officially took over the position of new commanding general of the PAF from Parreño.

Marcos confirmed Cordura’s appointment Wednesday evening through a letter of appointment dated December 16.
“Under this new leadership, you may continue to reach even greater heights, embodying the principles of honor, duty, [and] excellence,” Marcos said in his speech.
“These times call for vigilance and for resolve. There is no room for complacency, for any pause in our efforts to risk compromising the safety and welfare of the Filipino people,” he added.
“We must ensure that the continued modernization of our armed forces remains a priority, empowering us to protect the ideals that define our nation.
