MANILA, Philippines — Heavy rainfall is expected in many parts of Luzon and certain areas in Visayas due to the trough of Tropical Depression Romina and the shear line, the state weather bureau said.

In a heavy rainfall outlook issued 2 p.m. Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said intense to torrential rains greater than 200 mm may be expected on Kalayaan Islands in Palawan from Sunday to Monday noon.

Pagasa warned that the area may get widespread severe flooding and landslides due to the heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, the rest of Palawan will have heavy to intense rains ranging from 100 to 200 mm during the same forecast period.

Pagasa warned that numerous flooding events are likely in areas with heavy to intense rains, particularly in urbanized, low-lying regions or those near rivers.

Moderate to heavy rains ranging from 50 to 100 mm are also expected in the following areas, according to Pagasa:

Localized flooding is possible mainly in urbanized, low-lying areas, and regions near rivers that experience moderate to heavy rainfall.

Based on Pagasa’s latest cyclone bulletin, Romina was last spotted 285 km south of Kalayaan, Palawan outside the Philippine area of responsibility.

It maintained a maximum sustained wind speed of 55 kph and a gustiness of 70 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remains in effect on Kalayaan Island.
