A van driver dies while 10 others are hurt in a road crash in Quezon

LUCENA CITY — An unlicensed motorcyclist died while his back-rider was injured on Monday, Dec. 23, after their vehicle collided with a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in Sariaya town in Quezon province.

The Quezon police reported on Tuesday, Dec. 24, that “John,”32, was driving his motorcycle with “Jefferson” as pillion rider when he lost control of the vehicle in a section of the eco-tourism road in Barangay Bignay 1 around 7:30 p.m.

The wayward motorcycle occupied the opposite lane and consequently collided with an oncoming Isuzu Sportivo driven by “Jeffrey.”

The two riders suffered injuries and were taken to a hospital in neighboring Tayabas City but John was declared dead on arrival.

The police said John had no driver’s license.

The report did not state whether or not the victims were wearing crash helmets as mandated under the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.

The police mentioned that the family of the victim and the SUV driver were open to an amicable settlement.
