Isko Moreno’s heartfelt tribute to Manila’s elderly on Christmas
Former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, who is running for the position he once held, took to social media to share a heartfelt message reflecting on his time in office and the deep love he has for the city’s elderly population.
In his post, he fondly reminisced about the special Christmas gift boxes he distributed to seniors during his final holiday as mayor. The thoughtful gesture, which became a cherished tradition, included tumblers or mugs, low-sugar coffee or cacao tablea, cookies, and even five-kilo bags of black, brown, or red rice sourced from Mindanao.
He captioned the post with a touching message: “My beloved grandfathers and grandmothers, do you remember the special Christmas gift boxes we started in the City of Manila for you every year? These included a tumbler or mug, low-sugar coffee or cacao tablea, and cookies.
“We even gave five-kilo bags of black, brown, or red rice, which are products from Mindanao. More than just the benefits, the goal of the city government was to make you feel that you are included and valued in the City of Manila,” he said in Filipino.
Moreno’s commitment to Manila’s elderly is a sentiment many in the city continue to hold dear, especially residents like Bobbit Velasquez, a senior from Sta. Ana, who expressed, “You really felt Isko’s genuine care. The current mayor just does things to say they did something, but Isko made us feel valued,” he said in Tagalog.
