LUCENA CITY — A 28-year-old man drowned on Christmas day in a river in the Sierra Madre mountain ranges in General Nakar town in Quezon province.

The Quezon police, in a report on Thursday, Dec. 26, said “Noriel”, a resident of the locality, was swimming to cross Agos River when he was swept away by the raging current in Barangay Banglos around 8 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25.

His body was recovered around 9 a.m. the next day further down the river in neighboring Infanta town, according to the police.

Agos River originates from the Sierra Madre mountain ranges and ends up in the Pacific Ocean.

Police are conducting further investigations. For now, the case has been recorded as a “drowning incident.”

On Wednesday, General Nakar was battered by heavy rains due to the shear lines. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration raised a “yellow” warning due to the heavy downpour over Quezon province.
