Magnitude 5.3 earthquake hits Agusan del Sur

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.3 earthquake hit Agusan del Sur on Thursday evening, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

According to Phivolcs, the epicenter of the quake was located 10 kilometers southeast of Jose Talacugan, Agusan del Sur, and was recorded at exactly 6:26 p.m.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 10 kilometers.

Phivolcs said Intensity IV was felt in the City of Bislig and Hinatuan in Surigao Del Sur.

Meanwhile, Intensity III was felt in the cities of Gingoog, Medina, Magsaysay, and Jasaan in Misamis Oriental, as well as Nabunturan, Mabini, Monkayo, and Laak, in Davao de Oro, and Barobo in Surigao del Sur.

Intensity II was felt in Maco, Davao de Oro; Cagwait, Surigao del Sur; Cagayan de Oro City; Villanueva and Tagoloan in Misamis Oriental; and Kabacan and Matalan in Cotabato.

Intensity I was also felt in Caraga, Davao Oriental; Davao City; and Antipas, Cotabato.

Phivolcs said the following instrumental intensities were also recorded:

Phivolcs then warned that damage due to the quake is expected and that aftershocks may occur.
