MANILA, Philippines 鈥� Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla reminded local government units (LGUs) to enforce regulations on firecrackers to prevent injuries during New Year celebrations.
In a memorandum, Remulla urged LGUs to come up with ordinances or other regulations banning or discouraging individuals or households from using firecrackers as prescribed by Executive Order No. 28 -2017.
鈥淟GUs must restrict the use of firecrackers only to community fireworks displays that have secured necessary permits and conduct information campaigns on the dangers of prohibited fireworks,鈥� he said.

He also asked LGUs to enforce Republic Act No. 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 to maintain cleanliness and orderliness in public places during the holiday season.
He ordered the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to make sure that fireworks exhibition safe zones are guided by the provisions of Republic Act No. 9514 or the Fire Code of the Philippines.
He likewise directed the Philippine National Police to conduct inspection, confiscation, and destruction of illegal fireworks and pyrotechnic devices.

According to Remulla, the public should opt for alternative noise-making items such as horns, recycled containers, pans, and other common household items to welcome 2025.
Based BFP data, 32 pyrotechnic-related incidents have been recorded as of December 20 鈥� 24 of them were injured while five died.
The Department of Health earlier said it recorded 101 firework-related injuries from December 22-27.
