MANILA, Philippines 鈥 A woman drowned after drifting away due to strong floodwaters as their vehicle tried crossing a bridge in Marinduque on Christmas Day, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported Saturday.
The PCG did not give the victim鈥檚 name but said that her body was found the following day, Dec. 26, at Barangay Hupi in Sta. Cruz, Marinduque town. The bridge is located in nearby Barangay Baliis.
鈥淲hile trying to exit their vehicle, the female victim was caught by the flood current and carried into the river,鈥 the PCG said in a statement.

Heavy rains recently occurred in many parts of the country due to weather systems like the shear line, intertropical convergence zone, and northeast monsoon, locally termed amihan.
Authorities have warned that flooding and landslides may happen in affected areas, advising residents to take extra precautions.
