MANILA, Philippines 鈥� The private sector must be more proactive in contributing to the digitization of public schools in the country, a think tank pointed out on Saturday.
In a statement, the Stratbase Institute called on the private sector to support the Department of Education (DepEd), particularly its Adopt-a-School Program.
鈥淭he digital transformation of our public schools is no longer an option but an urgent necessity,鈥� said Stratbase president Victor Andres 鈥淒indo鈥� Manhit.

鈥淢odernizing our ICT infrastructure, ensuring reliable broadband connectivity, and equipping our teachers with digital skills are foundational steps to elevate our students鈥� learning competencies,鈥� he added.
Manhit also pointed out that the program already provides an effective framework for private sector participation as it offers tax incentives of up to 150 percent of the value of their contributions.
鈥淭his is an opportunity for businesses to contribute not only to the welfare of their host communities but also to the development of a digitally enabled population鈥攁 strategic imperative for global competitiveness,鈥� he said.
Furthermore, CitizenWatch Philippines co-convenor Tim Abejo echoed Manhit鈥檚 call, emphasizing the importance of telecommunications companies鈥� cooperation to ensure the program鈥檚 success.
鈥淭elcos play a crucial role in the digital transformation of the country. The Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) must be strictly implemented to prevent delays in digital infrastructure projects,鈥� Abejo said.
Abejo added that anyone who hinders connectivity, especially on the ground level, is anti-progress.
鈥淟GUs should toe the line and stop creating permitting or local regulatory roadblocks. Any aspect that hinders connectivity is a blight to progress,鈥� he said.
