MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4 earthquake jolted a municipality in Ilocos Norte province on Thursday evening, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

In its 11:36 a.m. update on Friday, Phivolcs said the earthquake occurred at 7:12 p.m. on Thursday, with its epicenter located northeast of Pasaquin, Ilocos Norte.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin and with a depth of focus of eight kilometers.

Phivolcs said Intensity I was reported in Laoag City and Pasaquin.

It also noted that no damage or aftershocks are expected from the quake.

Phivolcs previously highlighted the “region’s risk to geologic hazards,” urging the public to remain vigilant after a series of earthquakes rocked northwestern Luzon in December 2024.
