Red Cross to deploy 500 volunteers for traslacion 2025

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) will deploy 500 volunteers and staff for the Traslacion,  the procession of the image of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila on Thursday, January 9.

PRC announced that it would set up 17 first aid stations across the Traslacion procession route.

In a staement, the PRC said an emergency medical unit would be set up to house a six-bed emergency response module to treat minor wound cleaning and a 50-bed capacity ward for patients.

Eighty individuals will run the unit: five doctors, 10 nurses, 15 PRC Health Services staff and volunteers from Metro Manila, 25 support staff, and 25 tent builders.

Meanwhile, 18 ambulances from PRC chapters in Metro Manila will be deployed, while 20 ambulances from Central and Southern Luzon chapters will be on standby, according to the organization.

Additionally, 12 scooters will be used by medical teams to make rounds during the procession.

Other assets to be deployed by the humanitarian organization include two rescue boats, a rescue truck, a fire truck, a humvee, a 6×6 vehicle, and service vehicles.

The PRC detailed that its contingent will consist of volunteers from its national headquarters, 14 chapters in Metro Manila, and its Rizal province branch.

“The Red Cross stands ready to ensure the safety and wellbeing of thousands of devotees for a peaceful and solemn Traslacion,” PRC Chairperson Richard Gordon said in a statement.

“Given the expected large crowds, we will exercise an elevated level of vigilance to our response operations on the ground through our dedicated first aid volunteers and teams who are prepared for any situation or crises,” Gordon added.

Traslacion 2025 will ply the same route as the previous year, stretching a length of 5.8 kilometers with 12 prayer stations scattered throughout.
