DOH logs 638 road mishaps from Dec. 22 – Jan. 4

 DOH: Holiday road accidents hit 638 as of Jan. 3

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded 32 more road mishaps since Friday (January 3) bringing the total number of cases since December 22, 2024, to 638.

Based on DOH’s Saturday report, the cases of individuals who did not use safety accessories while driving increased from 527 to 553.

Mishaps involving motorcycles also increased from 433 to 452, while cases of drunk driving rose from 115 to 117.

The number of people who died due to these accidents remained at seven, four of them dying due to motorcycle accidents.

To prevent more road accidents, the DOH reminded the public to take note of the following:

  • Avoid driving when tired or drunk because it can affect coordination, concentration, and quick response to road situations
  • Wear helmets (for motorbikers) and seat belts
  • Follow the speed limit set and road signs to ensure safe travel and avoid accidents
  • Ensure having seven to eight hours of sleep before traveling to stay alert while driving
  • Avoid using phones and other distractions when driving
  • Immediately call 911 or 1555 DOH hotlines in case of emergency
