SANTA MAGDALENA, Sorsogon — Small vessels were prohibited from sailing on the eastern coast of this province on Thursday due to rough seas.
Lieutenant Ronnie Esparagoza, station commander of Coast Guard Sorsogon, issued the suspension order disallowing trips for small vessels with 15 gross tonnages and below.
Esparagoza cited the state weather bureau’s forecast on rough seas anticipated in the eastern parts of Southern Luzon, with expected wave heights ranging from 2.8 to 4 meters.
Larger vessels were advised to take precautions as they would encounter big waves.
According to its 11 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration Southern Luzon said Sorsogon has been experiencing light to moderate rains due to the prevailing effects of the shear line.
On Jan. 8, massive flooding was experienced in the provincial capital due to intense rains.
