Classes still suspended in parts of Sorsogon due to continuous rains

SANTA MAGDALENA, Sorsogon — Several towns in this province declared suspension of Friday classes as heavy rains brought by the shear line continuously affect the province.

The red rainfall warning raised by the state weather bureau around 11 p.m. on Thursday prompted 14 town mayors to issue their respective suspension orders in anticipation of severe flooding and potential landslides.

Classes at all levels in both private and public schools were suspended in the towns of Bulusan, Barcelona, Juban, Casiguran, Castilla, Matnog, Bulan, Pilar, and Gubat.

Santa Magdalena town also suspended classes at levels in all public schools, while Donsol town did not specify whether the suspension at all levels covers both private and public schools.

Schools in Sorsogon City and in the towns of Irosin and Magallanes were advised to adopt asynchronous learning mode while in-person classes remained halted.

As of Friday morning, Prieto Diaz town has yet to declare cancellation of classes.

Town officials urged their constituents through their respective advisories to remain vigilant and cooperative with authorities for their safety.

Moderate to occasionally heavy rains were observed in Sorsogon on Thursday, but the downpours intensified during the night until it reached the red rainfall mark.

On Wednesday, localized class suspensions were already implemented in some towns here due to intense rains that caused flooding in some areas. INQ
