MANILA, Philippines — A total of 89.48 tons of garbage were collected after the Feast of Jesus Nazareno last Thursday, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

The MMDA on Friday said the tons of garbage were hauled from January 6 to 9. It was equivalent to 21 truckloads of waste.

The Feast of Jesus Nazareno featured Novena masses, “Pahalik” or the touching of the image, and the Traslacion, or the procession of the image from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church.

This year’s Traslacion drew over 8.12 million Jesus Nazareno devotees, higher than the number of participants last year.

The route of Traslacion stretched 5.8 kilometers. The procession passed through three plazas and parks, one underpass, six bridges, and 18 national and city roads.
