Pagasa: Cool weather, rain in parts of PH Jan 11
MANILA, Philippines — Cool weather, cloudy skies, and rain will occur Saturday, Jan. 11, in certain portions of the country due to the effects of three weather systems, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
In an early Saturday morning bulletin, the state weather agency said the northeast monsoon, locally termed amihan, would make the weather cold and cause overcast skies with rains in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon.
The northeast monsoon was also forecast to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies and possibly isolated rain showers to Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon.
Pagasa expert Grace Castañeda likewise said during the Saturday morning weathercast that the Bicol Region, Mimaropa, and Visayas will experience overcast skies with rains due to the shear line, the zone where warm winds from the Pacific Ocean – or easterlies – clash with cold winds from the northeast monsoon.
“These rains are moderate to heavy, sometimes intense, especially in the Bicol Region,” she explained in mixed Filipino and English.

It will trigger rains in the Davao Region and Soccsksargen on Saturday, it noted.
For the rest of Mindanao, isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms will occur, Pagasa added.
“During severe thunderstorms, these rains may be moderate to heavy,” Castañeda explained.
