Lawmakers welcome survey results backing quad comm probe

MANILA, Philippines — The latest survey showing that six out of 10 Filipinos favor the House of Representatives quad committee’s investigations into extrajudicial killings (EJKs), illegal drugs, and illegal Philippine offshore gaming operations (Pogos) showed they see through corruption and irregularities, according to lawmakers.
Based on the latest Pulse Asia survey commissioned by Stratbase Group, 61 percent of Filipinos were in favor of the investigations conducted by the mega panel, while only 11 percent (one out of 10 Filipinos) were not in favor and 24 percent were undecided.

Members of the lower chamber’s so-called “Young Guns” welcomed this result, which they believe “serve as a strong endorsement of the House’s efforts to uphold transparency and accountability.”
The group consisted of Reps. Rodge Gutierrez (1-Rider Party-list), Zia Alonto Adiong (Lanao del Sur), Pammy Zamora (Taguig), Jay Khonghun (Zambales), Paolo Ortega V (La Union), Jil Bongalon (Ako Bicol Party-list), and Lordan Suan (Cagayan de Oro City).

After 13 hearings, the quad committee recommended last December the filing of crimes against humanity complaints against former president Rodrigo Duterte and his key allies for their role in the extrajudicial killings during the drug war.
The panel chair, Surigao del Norte 2nd District Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, said the quad committee recommends charges against Duterte, his then Philippine National Police (PNP) chief and now Senator Ronald Dela Rosa, and Senator Bong Go.
Apart from them, the mega panel also recommended charges against retired Police Col. Royina Garma, former National Police Commission chief Edilberto Leonardo, Go’s aide Irmina “Muking” Espino, as well as former PNP chiefs Oscar Albayalde and Debold Sinas
Barbers said the individuals named are reportedly in violation of Republic Act No. 9851, or the Philippine Act on Crimes Against International Humanitarian Law, Genocide, and Other Crimes Against Humanity.
In connection with the killing of the three Chinese in 2016, Barbers said the panel also recommended the filing of murder complaints against Duterte, Garma, Leonardo, Narsolis, and Padilla.
