MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga 鈥� Twenty-four individuals were arrested Sunday by policemen manning checkpoints on the first day of the election gun ban.
Newly installed Central Luzon police director Brigadier General Jean Fajardo inspected the seized firearms from the arrested persons after she formally assumed her new post at Camp Captain Julian Olivas in the City of San Fernando on Monday.
The arrested gun ban violators include eight in Nueva Ecija, six in Pampanga, five in Bataan, three in Zambales, and two in Bulacan.
Fajardo became the first woman police regional director of the Central Luzon police.
She was assigned at the regional camp here from 2011 to 2014. She served as Lubao town police chief, City of San Fernando police chief and Pampanga provincial police director. In 2022, she was transferred to Camp Crame and served as the national police spokesperson.
In her speech during the Monday flag ceremony, Fajardo asked all police officials and officers to remain impartial during the election period and just do their jobs to maintain peace and order.
In a statement on Monday, the Police Regional Office 3 here said police checkpoints have been installed in various parts of the region to ensure heightened security as the election period begins.
Fajardo said 314 checkpoints were established region-wide, with 2,438 police personnel deployed early Sunday morning, January 12, to enforce the nationwide gun ban.
鈥淭he PRO 3 top cop emphasized the importance of public cooperation with authorities during checkpoint operations and assured the public that police personnel will adhere to established protocols and uphold citizens鈥� rights. Motorists are reminded to slow down, dim their headlights, turn on cabin lights, and respond promptly when approached by police officers at checkpoints,鈥� the PRO3 said.
鈥淚 have also reminded our personnel to remain courteous to motorists and strictly follow the general guidelines outlined in our Revised Police Operational Procedures,鈥� Fajardo added.
She said carrying and transportation of firearms, deadly weapons, and explosives are strictly prohibited from Jan. 12 to June 11, in line with the election period.
