A married couple from Bacoor City, Cavite, showcased their unconditional love and sacrifice for Grey, their six-year-old “puspin” (pusang Pinoy), as they spent about P250,000 worth of veterinary bills over a year to save him from a urinary disease.

On Dec. 17, 2024, Shayne and Hiel Leonado said in an update on TikTok that Grey had finally recovered and returned home after a yearlong battle with Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD), which caused the cat to experience frequent urinary blockage.

Grabe pinagdaanan natin… Thank You Lord! 🙏🏽

The couple’s great relief and happiness over Grey’s recovery resonated among social media users. Some wished the family more blessings, while others became more inspired to fight for their pets.

Never lose hope

Shayne told that Grey’s illness first started in November 2023. He was straining and unable to urinate; thus, they opted to switch his meals to prescription food. However, his condition persisted, and by March 2024, they resorted to inserting a urinary catheter in the cat.

The following months became back and forth of blockages and surgeries. Grey underwent a perineal urethrostomy and was confined in June and August, following his blockages in May and July, respectively.

Despite the persistent blockages, the couple did not give up on Grey. They drove from Cavite to Taguig City to admit Grey to a more advanced clinic. Yet, after a month, the fur baby got blocked and had another surgery.

The series of blockages and surgeries continued until the first week of November 2024. Due to their relentless efforts, sacrifices and prayers for Grey’s recovery, the fur baby finally started peeing and returned home from hospitalization.

“GREY IS FINALLY HOME. He finally started peeing and went home without us not having [problems] with [it]. What’s more nice is HE GOT TO CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS WITH US,” Shayne exclaimed.

“Looking back, it took us [one] year, almost [five] months of confinement, about [four to five] major surgeries, and a [six-digit] vet bills (about 250,000). But it was worth it! Our Kuya Grey made it!” she added.

They are worth fighting for

Grey’s healing journey was never smooth sailing. It was a constant battle of one’s life to win a second chance to live. Shayne then encouraged fellow fur parents to never give up on their pets, as the fur babies are fighting with them, too.

“[Don’t] give up on your pets. They only have no one but YOU. [Spending] for their health is expensive, [but] nothing compares to the joy that you get the moment they recover and make it out alive,” Shayne expressed.

She advised people fighting for their pets to pray for the Lord’s guidance and provision. The couple asserted that they were not rich, but that through the Lord’s blessing, they were able to sustain the needs of their beloved Grey.

“It’s really a blessing from the Lord. We are not rich but have sustained [Grey’s expenses]. On top of that, we still have many rescues, and we don’t do donation drives. It’s all from the Lord,” the couple wrote in the comment section.

Shayne further noted that they rescue animals in need using their own money. The couple is wealthy with love from their rescued dog and cats, who live together with them.
