PNP: 2025 poll gun ban violators now at 274; 279 firearms seized

MANILA, Philippines — There are now 274 gun ban violators apprehended and 279 firearms confiscated by the Philippine National Police (PNP) amid the election period for the 2025 midterm polls.
The police force reported 250 violators on Tuesday.

According to PNP data released to the reporters in Camp Crame on Wednesday, 23 more civilians and one appointed government official were added to the tally, bringing the total number of violators to 274 as of Jan. 21.
As to the number of firearms, 128 were revolvers, 74 were pistols, seven were explosives, six were shotguns, one was an M15 A2 rifle, and 63 were other firearms.
The National Capital Region, Central Luzon, and Central Visayas had the three highest number of violators with 75, 67, and 32, respectively.
The three regions likewise had the highest number of seized firearms, with 77, 67, and 32, respectively.

The gun ban came into effect on Jan. 12. The election period will last until June 11.

Citing the 10 security guards included in the tally of gun ban violators, PNP Public Information Office chief Col. Randulf Tuaño on Tuesday warned security guards and their agencies against carrying their firearms outside duty hours.
Commission on Elections Resolution No. 11067 prohibits carrying firearms outside a person’s place of residence or business during the official election period.
