Filipina tourist hity by train in Taiwan now safe - Meco

MANILA, Philippines — The Filipina tourist who was hit by a train in Taiwan is now out of danger, but she needs at least two weeks to recuperate.

This was confirmed by Atty. Cheloy Garafil,  chairperson of in Taiwan.

“Ang good news ay very successful yung kanyang spine surgery kahapon and now she’s in the hospital recuperating,” said Garafil over Radyo 630.

(The good news is that her spine surgery yesterday was very successful and now she’s in the hospital recuperating.)

“Okay na siya and she just needs around two weeks to recuperate,” she added.

Garafil said the Filipina tourist was immediately brought to hospital after the accident.

“May mga surgery at medications pa siya na gagawin pero itong spine surgery kasi pinaka major na ginawa. Ito yung last na ginawa sa kanya and sabi naman sa amin, according to the report, she’s out of danger,” she said.

(There are other surgeries and medications that she still to undergo but the spine surgery was the major one. This was the last conducted and we were told that she’s out of danger.)

According to Garafil, the Filipina was struck by the train after she posed for a picture and “raised her hand.”

Garafil said the incident happened last January 21, 2025.
