MANILA, Philippines 鈥 More than 3,000 participants joined the first Open Government Partnership (OGP) Fun Run which started early Sunday morning at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.
A total of 3,900 individuals and government employees finished the event, according to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
The department organized the event.
鈥淵ou know, we have more than 200 international participants,鈥 Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said in an interview during the event.
鈥淚n the Philippines, we are a founding member of Open Government Partnership so we want to share with them (public) everything that we do in terms of open governance,鈥 she added.
Pangandaman said DBM is also working with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority in promoting the Green Green Green program by launching several parks, bike lanes and open spaces, not just in Metro Manila but nationwide.
In a statement released during the activity, the DBM said the OGP Fun Run aims to promote health and wellness and 鈥渢o champion the values of open government.鈥
鈥淭his is a prelude to the PH-OGP Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting (APRM) that will be held in Manila in February 2025,鈥 it added.
OGP was founded in 2011 as an initiative among nations led by the United States under the leadership of former President Barack Obama.
The Philippines is a co-founder, along with Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Norway, South Africa and the United Kingdom.
The event鈥檚 proceeds will go to the humanitarian programs of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).
鈥淓very step in this Fun Run is a contribution to our life-saving programs which will allow us to serve more vulnerable communities all over the country,鈥 PRC Secretary-General Dr. Gwendolyn Pang said.
The first-of-its-kind community running event offered three race distances from 3 kilometers, 5 kilometers and 10 kilometers around the Quirino Grandstand, Rizal Park (Luneta).
