MANILA, Philippines — The shear line, easterlies, and northeast monsoon or amihan are expected to bring overcast skies and rain to various parts of the country on Tuesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

(At present, we still expect rains in some parts of the country due to the continuous effects of weather systems currently affecting our archipelago.)

According to Torres, the shear line will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms to Visayas, Palawan, and the Dinagat Islands in Mindanao.

(Here in the Visayas, we can see clusters of clouds extending to Palawan. That’s the shear line or the convergence of cold and warm air.)

She added that the rest of Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies.

(Similarly, here in Mindanao, we also expect rainy weather caused by the easterlies or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.)

Meanwhile, cloudy skies with rains are expected in Batanes, Cagayan, and Isabela on Tuesday due to the northeast monsoon, locally termed amihan.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will likewise experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the same weather system.

(In the coming days, the effects of the northeast monsoon will gradually intensify, bringing rains to the eastern sections of Luzon.)

Pagasa hoisted a gale warning over the seaboards of Northern Luzon, affecting coastal areas in Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.

(We expect rough to very rough seas, so it is dangerous to set sail, especially for our fellow citizens with small vessels.)

Wave heights in these areas are forecast to range from 3.1 to 5.5 meters, Pagasa added.
