2 magnitude 3.9 tremors hit Calatagan, Batangas

LUCENA CITY — Two earthquakes, both magnitude 3.9, were recorded Thursday, Jan. 30, in Calatagan town in Batangas province.

The Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tectonic tremor hit 23 kilometers northwest of the municipality, with a depth of 80 km, at 8:22 a.m.

At 2:35 a.m., another magnitude 3.9 tectonic tremor was also detected 16 kilometers southwest of the locality, with a depth of 172 km, at 2:35 a.m.

A tectonic earthquake is produced by sudden movement along faults and plate boundaries.

The Phivolcs said they were not expecting damage or aftershocks from the two earthquakes.
