P36 million worth of shabu, marijuana seized in Calabarzon in January
LUCENA CITY — The Philippine National Police in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) region arrested a total of 885 suspected drug traffickers and seized more than P36.9 million worth of illegal drugs last month.
Police Brigadier General Paul Kenneth Lucas, Region 4A police chief, made the statement in a report issued on Saturday, February. 1.
He said anti-illegal drug operatives across the region conducted 685 operations and confiscated a total of 5,396 grams of shabu (crystal meth) and 2,360 grams of dried marijuana leaves from Jan. 1 to 31.
The illegal drugs were reportedly worth about P36,980,304.
On top of the operations was the seizure of over P13 million worth of shabu in Calamba City, Laguna on Jan. 21.
Article continues after this advertisementA drug suspect was killed, two others were wounded and two were arrested during the buy-bust operation that turned into an armed encounter.
Article continues after this advertisementAlso arrested in January were 983 persons who were subjects of manhunt.
One of them was included in the most wanted list in the country.
On the other hand, 73 of the nabbed persons were in the wanted list of the police regional office.
Last month, law enforcers in the five provinces collared 1,747 illegal gamblers, most of them “bookies” or persons engaged in illegal operation of the government’s Small Town Lottery.
At least 345 cases have been filed in courts against the suspects.
The authorities also arrested at least 84 people for carrying illegal guns and confiscated around 113 assorted firearms.
