PH’s first 12-story public school building a ‘symbol of hope’ — Angara

MANILA, Philippines — The country’s first 12-story medium-rise public school building in Cebu City is considered as a “symbol of hope,” Education Secretary Sonny Angara said.
Angara led the groundbreaking ceremony of the 12-story academic building at the Don Vicente Rama Memorial National High School on Thursday.

“Hindi lang ito gusali. It’s not a mere building. It is a symbol of hope. Simbolo po ito ng pagmamahal sa inyo ng ating mahal na Pangulo, President Bongbong Marcos Jr.,” Angara said in a statement.

Article continues after this advertisementThe DepEd in the same statement said that the school building is designed “to withstand natural disasters” and house 42 classrooms, nine workshops, an audiovisual room, a library, a clinic, and fully-equipped laboratories. It added that it will accommodate 2,000 students in one shift.
Article continues after this advertisement“Sa 4,000 students na nandito, makakauwi na ng maaga ‘yung kalahati doon, at masusundan pa itong building na ito,” Angara added.
(Of the 4,000 students here, half of them will be able to go home early, and this building will be followed by more like it.)
The agency also noted that the construction of the building, meant to address congestion and improve conducive learning environment, will allow “more students to enroll in special programs and Senior High School.”
Cebu City South District Rep. Edu Rama said that the Cebuanos take great pride in the establishment of the building, adding that “[t]his will definitely address classroom shortages and hopefully end the need for classroom shifting that our students currently experience.”

The school’s construction is expected to commence in March to December 2025.
The education chief also inspected Cansojong National High School in Talisay City, Cebu to ensure the school’s preparations for upcoming global and local assessments.
