MANILA, Philippines — A tropical cyclone forming this week is unlikely, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina said Monday that no low-pressure area had been seen based on the state weather bureau’s latest satellite image.

“Maliit pa rin yung tsansa na magkaroon tayo ng bagyo sa araw na ito at sa susunod pa this week,” Badrina said during its morning weather forecast.

(The chances of a tropical cyclone forming today and in the next few days this week remain low.)

“Normally po, ang February, maliit ‘yung tsansa o kakaunti lang ‘yung mga nabubuong bagyo kapag buwan ng Pebrero at ng Marso,” he added.

(As does March, February has a low probability of tropical cyclone formation.)

Pagasa previously reported that the country may experience either no tropical cyclones or just one for the entire month of February.

According to Pagasa climatologist Junie Ruiz, climatological patterns suggest that the probability of cyclone formation in February remains low, as discussed during the agency’s climate forum on January 22.
