Election gun ban in Calabarzon: 61 nabbed, 60 firearms seized
LUCENA CITY — The Philippine National Police in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) region arrested 61 individuals who allegedly violated the nationwide gun ban imposed for the upcoming May elections.
In a report on Monday, Police Brigadier General Paul Kenneth Lucas, Police Regional Office 4A (PRO-4A) chief, said cops across the region confiscated 60 assorted firearms from ban violators from Jan. 12 to Feb. 2.
The gun ban started at the beginning of the official election period on Jan. 12 and will end on June 11 to ensure peace and order and lessen gun-related violence in light of the midterm polls this May.
Any gun permit — to carry firearms outside of residence, letter orders, and mission orders — is suspended during this period.
The PRO-4A reported that 3,138 gun holders surrendered their firearms from Sept. 25, 2024, to Jan. 31, 2025.
