MANILA, Philippines 鈥� Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) Chair Prospero de Vera III聽 has urged the Pamantasan ng Cabuyao president to issue a clarification about its 鈥淓nglish-only policy鈥� after it drew widespread backlash.
De Vera also advised the university chief to issue a statement to the media to explain this policy.
鈥淚 have already talked to the Pamantasan ng Cabuyao president to understand the basis and intent of his proposed policy,鈥� de Vera told reporters in a Viber message on Wednesday.
鈥淚 advised him to immediately issue a press release to explain and clarify the issue and to respond to media interviews,鈥� he continued. 鈥淚t is best that the media interview him so he can explain the proposed policy.鈥�

On Monday, the university said its English-only policy was made in a bid to foster academic excellence and global competitiveness.
The university has not issued a clarification as of posting time.
Historian Xiao Chua slammed this move, calling it a 鈥渟lave mentality.鈥�
Chua said in a Facebook post on Tuesday: 鈥淓nglish only to be globally competitive? Que horror!鈥�
