Dela Rosa: Impeachment of VP Duterte likely after 2025 elections

MANILA, Philippines — There’s a possibility that the impeachment complaint filed against Vice President Sara Duterte will be tackled in the upper chamber after the 2025 midterm polls, at least according to Sen. Bato dela Rosa.
Dela Rosa, a known Duterte ally, said informal talks among his colleagues suggest that this is one of the possibilities being floated.
“Most likely, the earliest that we will tackle that in the plenary is after the election. Kasi di na kami babalik,” dela Rosa told reporters in a press conference on Wednesday.

As scheduled, Congress is set to adjourn its session on February 5. Based on the existing calendar, its regular session is set to resume in June.

The former top cop said he finds the timing of the impeachment unfair.
“They’re being unfair, right? They’re going to make us hostages here to be judges of the impeachment court, and then they’ll start campaigning. Here we are now — [23] of us will be sitting as judges of the impeachment court, and we won’t be able to campaign,” said dela Rosa mostly in Filipino.
