MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on Wednesday ordered the closure of Our Lady of Mercy College (OLMC) in Eastern Samar’s Borongan City.

CHED chairman Prospero de Vera III said this move was made due to OLMC’s non-compliance of the commission’s policies, standards, and guidelines (PSGs) to its criminology and nursing programs.

“The Commission has done what we can do to help OLMC but still the College remains non-compliant with our PSGs,” De Vera said in a statement.

“The closure is issued to ensure student access to quality education. Rest assured that we will assist the transfer of affected students to reputable HEIs (higher education institutions),” he added.

De Vera stressed, however, that 4th year students of OLMC are still allowed to continue their studies and graduate by the end of academic year 2024-2025, while the first year, second year and third year students will be assisted by the commission to be transferred to other recognized programs or HEIs.
