MANILA, Philippines — Cloudy skies and rain will prevail in some parts of the country on Saturday due to the northeast monsoon, easterlies and shear line, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa said that the northeast monsoon or “amihan” will bring rains and partly cloudy to cloudy skies in Northern and Central Luzon.

“Dulot ng epekto ng northeast monsoon, asahan po natin yung light to moderate at paminsang-minsang malakas na buhos ng ulan dulot ng hanging amihan dito sa Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, gayun din sa Aurora at dito sa Metro Manila area,” Pagasa weather specialist Rhea Torres said in a 4 a.m. forecast.

(Due to the effect of the northeast monsoon, expect light to moderate rains in Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora and Metro Manila.)

Ilocos Region and the rest of Central Luzon will experience partly cloudy skies with chances of sudden and light rains.

Meanwhile, the shear line, or the convergence of warm and cold winds, will prevail over the rest of Luzon, bringing moderate to heavy rains. It will also bring rains in Palawan and Visayas.

“Sa nalalabing bahagi ng Luzon, most parts ng Luzon, pati dyan sa Calabarzon [Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Batangas and Quezon], Bicol Region pati sa Mimaropa [Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan], makakaranas din po ng moderate to heavy na mga pag-ulan dulot ng epekto ng shear line,” Torres noted.

(For the rest of Luzon, most parts of Luzon, also there in Calabarzon, Bicol Region and Mimaropa, will experience moderate to heavy rains due to shear line.)

Easterlies, or the warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, will bring rains in the eastern section of Mindanao, in Caraga and Davao region.

“For the rest of Mindanao, asahan po natin yung partly to cloudy skies at kung may pag-ulan man, panandalian lang po ito na pagbuhos ng ulan dulot ng isolated thunderstorms,” Torres reported.

(For the rest of Mindanao, expect partly cloudy skies and possible sudden rains due to isolated thunderstorms.)

A gale warning is hoisted over the coastal areas in the following places where 3.1 to 6 meters of waves are likely to occur:
