P9 million worth of illegal electronics seized in Subic Freeport

After experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases for nearly a month, this economic zone did not record any new infections in the last two days, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) announced Friday (Feb.11).

SAN ANTONIO, ZAMBALES – Some P9 million worth of counterfeit television (TV) units were confiscated in an electronics store owned by some Chinese inside the Subic Bay Freeport in Zambales, authorities confirmed on Saturday (Feb. 8).

According to Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Police Captain Jan Michael Jardin, authorities served a search warrant to Enjoy Electronics Subic International located at the Corregidor Highway in Ilanin West District on Thursday (Feb. 6)

This was part of Oplan Megashopper campaign of law enforcers.

The warrant was issued by Judge Sheryll Dolendo Tulabing of Regional Trial Court Branch 28, Manila for Violation of Section 155 in relation to Section 170 of Republic Act 8293 or the law titled Trademark Infringement.

Jardin said a company representative and witnesses from the SBMA Intelligence and Investigation Office, as well as personnel from the SBMA Law Enforcement Department, were present during the operation.

As of now, they have yet to locate the officials of the company namely Zuhai Huang, Wang Teng Teng, Huang Xiaoping and Huang Wufa.

These persons are all Chinese residing in Ilanin West District.

The operation yielded the confiscation of the following items specified in the search warrant:

  • 40 boxes containing 1,286 pieces of TV panel boards
  • 50 boxes containing 830 pieces of back covers
  • 25 boxes containing 2,000 pieces of TV motherboards
  • 41 counterfeit tv sets

The authorities also confiscated the following items:

  • 313 TV front covers
  • 100 TV speakers
  • 310 TV power cords
  • 4,000 TV power boards
  • 24 bundles TV packaging or boxes
  • 5 bundles of TV packaging or boxes bearing certified product safety license number Q-2892
  • 1 box containing stickers with brand names; and several delivery receipts of TV sets

The pieces of evidence were brought to CIDG Pampanga Police Field Unit for documentation and proper disposition.

The police will prepare the documents for the filing of criminal charges before the Prosecutors Office.
