Speaker’s son replaces mom as Tingog party-list’s first nominee

TACLOBAN CITY – Another son of Speaker Martin Romualdez is joining politics.

Andrew Julian Romualdez was formally introduced as the first nominee of Tingog party-list during its national summit at Leyte Academic Center in Palo town, Leyte on Saturday, Feb. 8,

Julian replaced his mother, Yedda Marie, as the party-list group’s first nominee.

Both Julian and Yedda were not present during the three-day Tingog summit which was attended by its more than 500 organizers and staff across the country.

It was not explained why Yedda stepped down as the partylist group’s first nominee and agreed to be relegated to sixth nominee.

Yedda is serving a second term as Tingog partylist representative. The second nominee is incumbent Rep. Jude Acidre. Its third nominee is Yedda’s sister, Happy Calatrava.

When reached for comment, Acidre said Yedda decided to yield to her son because she wanted to rest.

Julian, 24, is the second son of the Speaker who decided to join in the political scene.

Elder brother, Ferdinand Martin Jr. is running for councilor of Tacloban City, Leyte.

Both brothers are running for elective posts for the first time.

Speaker Romualdez himself is seeking a third term as Leyte’s 1st district representative.
