TAGBILARAN CITY β Three members of the House of Representatives from Bohol who voted for the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte stood by their decision, saying they simply want to know the truth.
In a joint statement on Monday, Representatives Edgar Chatto (1st district), Vanessa Aumentado (second district) and Alexie Tutor (third district) said they call for a transparent and accountable brand of leadership, suitable and in line with the belief in the Constitution that holding government office is a trust of the people.
βWe stand as members of our respective political parties who have actively participated in the honest efforts of the quad-committee over the past months to ascertain the truth through evidence,β they said.
The House of Representatives last Feb. 5, voted to impeach Duterte on allegations of corruption, betrayal of public trust and violations of the Constitution.
Two hundred fifteen legislators from the lower house signed the complaint.
The lawmakers clarified that the decision was not an attack against the vice president and her office but only a method to find out the truth.
They said bringing the charge to the Senate now provides a platform for Duterte to defend herself.
The Senate, which sits as an impeachment court, has the right to hear the evidence and decide the case based on evidence and in accordance with the law.
