MANILA, Philippines — Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island emitted over 4,000 metric tons of sulfur dioxide on Sunday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said on Monday.

In a bulletin, Phivolcs reported that Kanlaon’s sulfur dioxide flux reached 4,604 metric tons, up from the 2,625 metric tons recorded on Saturday.

The volcano also produced a moderate 200-meter-high plume that drifted westward, the state seismologist added.

Phivolcs likewise recorded 32 volcanic earthquakes during the same monitoring period, further indicating ongoing unrest.

Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3, which signifies intensified volcanic unrest.
