MANILA, Philippines 鈥斅 Anti-poverty czar Lorenzo 鈥淟arry鈥 Gadon on Monday called on Vice President Sara Duterte to resign from her post instead of waiting for the result of her impeachment trial.

鈥淚 suggest that VP Sara Duterte resign and not wait for the impeachment trial to proceed. She needs to resign so that she can still run in 2028 for presidential elections,鈥 Gadon said in a mix of English and Filipino in a statement to reporters.

鈥淚 want her to run because I want to embarrass the Dutertes that they no longer have the votes,鈥 he added.

Gadon also claimed that a certain unverified survey 鈥 which he alleges was conducted by members of Congress 鈥 showed that Duterte had a low chance of winning the presidency in 2022. This, he said, was the reason Duterte ran as vice president.

鈥淭hey just keep claiming that they鈥檙e number one and so on. But actually, no. Duterte has no votes. Their votes are not enough to send a president to Malaca帽ang,鈥 Gadon said,聽 noting that former President Rodrigo Duterte was also only elected due to the Marcoses鈥 influence.

Gadon also mentioned the issues hounding the current vice president, including her alleged misuse of funds of the Department of Education and the Office of the Vice President and the supposed kill plot she bared against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., his wife Liza, and cousin Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Duterte was impeached by the House of Representatives on Feb. 14, with 215 House members voting in favor of her removal from office.

If found guilty in a Senate impeachment trial, Duterte may be permanently barred from holding public office.

Despite this, Duterte previously said that she was not yet considering resigning from her post, even adding that she is also 鈥渟eriously considering鈥 running for the 2028 elections.

She did not specify, however, which post she was eyeing.
