MANILA, Philippines 鈥� President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed into law a measure that gives a fixed term to the post of the Philippine Coast Guard鈥檚 (PCG) commandant.
Marcos signed Republic Act (RA) No. 12122 on Tuesday (Feb. 18) and this move was publicized on Wednesday.
Under the new law, the PCG commandant shall have a maximum term of three years, 鈥渦nless sooner terminated by the President.鈥�
鈥淭he PCG Commandant shall be compulsorily retired upon completion of the maximum term or upon relief by the President,鈥� the measure stated.
The law is set to take effect immediately upon its publication in the Official Gazette or at least in one newspaper of general circulation.
